With long, thick hair, I am always looking for something to hold it back from my face. When I was a kid, I sometimes wore headbands, but as I grew up, they were too uncomfortable and I could never wear them for long.  I've purchased several different types over the years and had the same problem each time. The regular type always pinched the area behind my ear and that's painful. The stretch type bands would ride up in the back, making my hair rise with it. I had pretty much given up on ever using them again, yet I'd still look at them in the stores from time to time.

Recently, I discovered these "Ouchless Headbands With Flextips" at Walmart. After years of being duped into buying the next new thing, I was skeptical. They were only $3.99 each, but even so, I was hesitant. I finally decided to give one a try.

 When I got home, I examined the headband and could feel the rubber tips and they did indeed bend. This meant they weren't hard, which meant pain, and I could adjust them if needed. I was feeling more optimistic.

I wore the headband for an hour or so and then felt the need to adjust the tip. I bent it away from my skin and tried again. This was a real improvement over any I had used before. I wore it for several hours without major pain. I liked it enough to go back to Walmart and buy the other color.

The headbands are black or tortoise in color and have teeth to help keep it in place.  The tip is about 1/4 inch long and the rubber feels sturdy enough to hold up through a lot of adjusting.  Inside each side is a label indicating which way to put on the headband.  The "L" and "R" saves me from having to do it twice.

For the first time in my adult life, I can now wear a headband for more than a couple of hours. This is definiely a step in the right direction and I don't know why it took so long for someone to come up with this idea.  I can't say that I never feel any discomfort. Some days I do, but it's not nearly as bad as the regular headbands. I've noticed that I feel some discomfort when I wear glasses, but it's not unbearable.

 If you really like to wear a headband and have never found one that you can stand to wear, you might want to give this a try.

Dollar General is now carrying these headbands in pink and purple, along with the original colors. There was also a money back offer on the display. I bought mine at Walmart and assume they will be in many other stores.
