Nothing is more important then vocabulary. A dictionary is an important book which helps promote the knowledge of words and their meanings. This aides in expanding one's vocabulary which improves our speech and writing.

Children need to have this tool available to them just as adult do, but it needs to be based on their age level.

My grandson is too young yet for a dictionary, but I have one available for him when he is ready.  

A First Dictionary is written for children ages 7-9 to help them prepare for school. It is written in clear understandable English, and it has picture representations of certain words placed on various pages. It offers an easier understanding of words while offering a bit of challenge to encourage children to learn.

It contain 1500 entries, and it is a great introduction into the learning of basic vocabulary and word meanings.

This is an older dictionary which was published in 1990 by Golden Press written by Gene Biggs, Harriet Wittels, and Joan Greisman.  It was distributed by Children's Books and is now only sold by browsing the internet.  I found it at eBay. 

I would recommend this dictionary to anyone who wants an easy to read dictionary for their young child.  This is an important part of the learning process, and children will enjoy learning using this great dictionary.
