A couple of weeks ago, I read the book The Golden Compass, and absolutely fell in love with it! It was utterly amazing. They are pretty well-known, so I wouldn't be surprised if most of you have already heard of it. The book really makes you think, and it has definitely made its way to my top ten.

In the book, we meet a young, rebelious girl named Lyra and her daemon, Pantalaimon. In this world, humans have spiritual forms of themselves that take the form of animals, called daemons. Children's daemons can change form, but once they reach a certain age, usually around puberty, they will take one form permantely. Lyra lives at a college near Oxford. After meeting a mysterious and beautiful Ms. Coulter, she travels with her and finds herself in a world of love, betrayal, and the true meanings of life.

I think this is a great book, and can be comparable with the Harry Potter series. It has a great, complex plot with believable characters. It is full of the fantasies of another world. I would definitely recommend it.
