The Polar Express is definitely one of the most awesome Christmas book for kids that was ever made. To me, this book is almost in a class of its own. I believe it was already the first page that had me totally hooked. I felt so special to be included on this incredible journey to the north pole. I did not want this story to end.
I can't imagine anyone not liking this book. The story itself is amazing. The illustrations are just enough of what I needed and subtle enough to keep me wanting more. This most awesome book was written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg.
With the turn of every page I felt as if I were there too. I can see the twinkling lights of the town. I feel a chill in the air when I come to the page with the wolves. I can feel that train racing through the forest.
When our tain climbed the mountain, it did not feel like a miniature train on a hill, I only felt how long a distance we traveled. I could not wait to see what would happen next.
The North Pole looks the way one could imagine it looking today. The boy's face as Santa holds up the first gift of Christmas is so expressive. The reindeer look so majestic and regal. And when they trot up into the sky and away into the night, I look for the spot on the reindeer's harness that is missing a bell. I feel as though I am in on a little secret.
Then on the train, we want to cry. Our hearts are broken. What will the author do next? I am not about to give any of the story away. I just know that every child should own the Polar Express or at least have this book read to them.
Believe it or not, still, to this day, I imagine what it would be like to look out my front window and see a train standing out in the middle of my street. If you like trains or wolves or you need a jolt of heavy duty Christmas spirit, you need to read the Polar Express.
