Books Movies & Music / Fiction Books / JPod by Douglas Coupland

Douglas Coupland's lastest novel, JPod is nothing too surprising for fans of the author's previous works. Like most of his books, the author attempts to make timely social and cultural statement's with a tongue in cheek voice that seeks to let the reader know that he is on what everyone is already laughing about.

This leads to what is perhaps the most redeeming quality of the text; that of the humour that keeps the entire narrative afloat throughout it's regretably frequent lapses in decent prose. There are pop culture and social references galore and each one of Coupland's characters possess a seemingly limitless knowledge of everything kitsch.

Ultimately, the book works best as a light comedy that pulls most of its overall value from the genuine laughs and relatively insightful views though one should not enter into a reading expecting serious literature to arise.
