Donna Andrews has written a series of books called the Meg Langslow Mysteries.  I have read a few of them and enjoyed them very much.  The Penguin Who Knew Too Much was another winner in this series, a very funny book.

It's coming up on Memorial Day, and Meg is inviting a bunch of her relatives to her still-being-renovated house for a big party.  What no one knows is that Meg and fiance, Michael, are intending to leave the party early and elope, so as to avoid all of the hoopla Meg's mother is planning.  Of course, Meg wasn't planning on having a slew of animals literally in her backyard, due to the fact that the local zoo is going bankrupt and someone has to look after the animals until other homes can be found for them.  Meg's dad volunteers to take care of the penguins, and soon other animals, such as llamas, hyenas and camels, end up on Meg's doorstep.  A body is also found in Meg's basement, and wouldn't you know it turns out to be the owner of the now-bankrupt zoo?  Between animals, murder, soon-to-be-arriving relatives, and the approaching elopement, Meg has her hands full, and Donna Andrews has written a book that is full of laughs. 

I enjoy the heroine, Meg Langslow, as well as all of the other lovable characters that Donna Andrews has packed into this entertaining book.  Mystery, laughs, great characters and a good plot make for a very enjoyable read.  And enjoy it I did.
