Books Movies & Music / Fiction Books / The Pillars of the Earth

I'm not ahuge fan of Oprah but I do watch her show every once in awhile. Usually just for background noise while I'm doing something else. But a few months ago I happened to watch her show when she was finishing up one of the books she had for her Book Club. The book was The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. It drew my attention because the book is based in a time period that I am fasinated with: Medieval Times.

The baises of the book is the building of a Medieval Cathedral. The largest and grandest to ever be built in England. The story on the other hand does not focus entirely on the building of the Cathedral. It is more about the people who are building it. Their life struggles, hardships, pains and joys during this long processes of building and financing such a large and magnificent building.

The only downfall to this book is that is is 973 pages long. But it's so intriguing and pulls you into the lives of these characters that when you hit page 973 you still want more. You want to find out what happens to the characters next.

If you enjoy reading stories based in the Medieval Time period then I highly recommend this book.
