Books Movies & Music / Fiction Books / The Summoning

Before I start, this book is a YA (young adult) book so in my view it was too old for the children's book area (15-18) so I put it in fiction. Because of some mature content, you would not want a tween or younger reading this book.

I am a big fan of Kelley Armstrong's world of strong werewolf, witch, and/or vampire women. They live in a world that can be scary at times, but also filled with wonder that we don't always find in this mundane world of ours. Yes, I am addicted to "urban fantasy." I like the idea that if I look hard enough I can see a flower turn into a small flying fairy. And yes, I loved Peter Pan and all the stories associated with that world.

But, I don't usually read YA books (except Harry Potter). My husband and I walk into Borders about once a week, looking at the newest books and in my case looking for some new authors. I just happened to walk through the YA area (it is near woodworking--my husband loves the woodworking section) and there it was. A new book by Kelley Armstrong in the YA section.

I was delighted. I didn't care that it was about a 15 year old girl who was put in a group home because she could see ghosts. I just knew that even though I might not be a 15 year old girl that I would still love Armstrong's storytelling.

Well, she didn't disappoint. The book is written on the level of a teen who is worried about fitting into her life when she is thrown into a much more contstricted life. In this book she finds out that there is another world filled with supernaturals--witches, werewolves, and necromancers.

However, this book only tells a part of her story. But, thankfully there are two more books in this trilogy that will be printed and on the shelves soon... I hope.... I wanna read more.
