Books Movies & Music / Fiction Books / The Winter Of Our Discontent

As I was browsing at a flea market, I ran across an old book called The Winter Of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck. At a bargain price of fifty cents for a lovely copy of an antique book of course I bought it for my collection. The title intrigued me, and I liked The Red Pony and Travels with Charley to name a few of Steinbecks books.

Little did I know, this book touched my heart in a way I didn't expect. This story is simple yet complex, and the characters remind me of people I know as well myself. Despite the statement on the first page of the book about identifying with fictional characters, I found myself relating to the main character, Ethan Allen Hawley very much.

The Winter Of Our Discontent is a fantastic story with well developed characters. It is truly a masterpeice of a book! I would recommend that everyone reads at least one story by John Steinbeck, and this is a great one to start off with!
