Books Movies & Music / Magazines / QST - ARRL Journal

Both my husband and I are hold extra-class FCC licenses for Amateur Radio. We also belong to the ARRL  - the national association for Amateur Radio. So how did I get involved with Amateur Radio?

It is a long story, so I'll give you the shortened version. I was interested in Emergency communication, while I was living in SLC, Utah. I was able to get my Novice license in one short session. We had to take 5 word per minute Morse code at the time. Anyway, I didn't pursue amateur radio until a few years later when I joined the Navy. My husband was also involved in Amateur radio and he helped me to become better involved in this hobby. He now works in emergency communication, while I play at it.

Anyway, part of being a member of the ARRL is getting the QST magazine. This magazine has reviews of different types of Amateur radio equipment, how-to articles in making antennas, coming conventions, social events. This magazine is printed on glossy paper. We keep our copies for years.

Just recently, I noticed that the QSTs had gotten piled up in the bedroom. We decided to take a few of the older years and share them with our club members. The nice thing about this magazine is that none of the articles go out of style. And, the information is just as interesting today as they were a few years back.

So I suggest that if you decide to get involved with Amateur radio (or Ham radio), please get involved with ARRL and read the QST. You'll be glad you did.
