My fiance and I are in the process of planning our wedding and since we are on a pretty tight budget we thought we would cater the wedding reception ourselves. Brian is experienced in cooking for a crowd since he spent 20 years in the Navy doing just that and I just love to cook! We had a general idea of how to do things and what type of food we would like to serve but we were looking for information also to make sure we did it right and weren't being overly ambitious.

I was searching the library catalog one day for catering books and came across this one specifically for weddings. I checked it out and it was just what we needed. It is a 155 pages packed with recipes and useful information. All of the recipes in the book are for a reception of 50 people so you may have to adjust them but it's really not hard to do that. The author breaks down everything for you, when to do this, how far in advance things can be made, she gives shopping lists, table set ups, a variety of recipes for every course and a lot more.

We are not following this book completely for our reception, we have some of our own recipes but did select a few from the book as well. It really did help us though as a guideline for serving amounts, prep times and the like. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering catering their own wedding reception, it's very helpful.
