Books Movies & Music / Toddler Books / Princess Petal

Princess Petal, by Lesley Rees, is a very attractive board book.  It has all sorts of sparkly illustrations and a sturdy board backing.

While the illustrations are pretty, the story leaves a lot to be desired.  It is very inane, completely uneducational, and poorly written.  The whole theme of a princess getting dressed up to be the prettiest one there is demeaning to women, as well as a terrible message to send our little girls.

I found it very offensive to open up a sturdy baby board book with attractive pictures to find a story like this one.  I'm glad I only got it at a garage sale, so I feel no regret in tossing it in the trash.  That's the only place a story like this belongs.
