Clothing / Watches / No Fashion Statement - Just Gives the Time

I had been looking for a watch for quite a while.  My requirements are not quite the same as some people, but this “kids’” watch turned out to be perfect for me.

I haven’t worn a watch for several years because I couldn’t find one that was readable without my glasses, not huge (I am small), not fancy, and inexpensive.  This summer I discovered a Timex Kids’ Watch, and except that I would like to replace the band it has been great.

This is an analog watch.  It has regular arabic numbers, and a second hand.  The only extra feature of the watch is an “indiglo” night light.  It is supposed to be water resistant to 30 meters.  I don’t think I’ll be putting that to the test.

The face of the watch, including the bezel, is just over an inch across.  You set the time by pulling out the stem and twisting it... the very simple old-fashioned way.  To use the light press the stem in. You can easily read the time in the dark with this patented lighting system which is standard on many Timex watches.

It is powered by a battery which should be replaced by a jeweler or at an electronics counter.

The one thing I’m not crazy about is the band.  It is a simple slip-through, velcro closure. My hands are very small and I can slip my hand through the loop without taking it out of the “ring,” but some children have larger hands than I do! This only makes it slightly more difficult to put on... about the same as slipping a band tab through a buckle. I think that the band is slightly rough and irritating, although that has improved with time. The pins that hold the band are standard, so I could replace the band if I was willing to bother.

One very nice part of the Timex package for Kids’ watches is their loss protection plan. It states that the company realizes that kids lose things.  At any time within one year of purchase if the watch is lost, you just need to send proof of purchase and you can receive an identical or comparable watch for only $10. Of course this is not a huge discount, but every little bit can help.

In conclusion, even though this is designed for children, I’ve found it to be an accurate, simple and practical timepiece for myself. Timex keeps on tickin’!
