If you are on the computer a lot, several things are very important:

1. Work surface (keyboard) height,

2. A good adjustable chair, and

3. The height, distance, and angle of your monitor.

I have an Ikea desk which I have adjusted to have a very low work surface.  This means that working on my keyboard is very comfortable.  However, if I simply put my monitor on the desk it is much too low.  I like it so that the top of my monitor is just slightly below my eye level.

To solve my monitor height problem, I use a Fellowes Monitor Riser Plus.  I have been using it for over 5 years.  It works great for my 22 inch LCD monitor now, and previously worked just as well for my very heavy 19 inch CRT monitor.

The most important features are that it is very strong and very adjustable.  You adjust the height by using more or less of the interlocking blocks which act as the support columns. The riser will add up to 6.5 inches of additional height.  The top surface of the stand is 13.5 by 13.2 inches and can support a monitor up to 80 pounds.

A nice feature for some people might be the paper (or miscellaneous) drawer.  This was not that useful to me, so I removed it and store my DSL modem under my monitor.

The cream colored plastic is starting to look at bit dated.  There are more modern component grey colored risers available today.
