I had been contemplating buying the Blackadder series after enjoying it when it ran on TV, so when I accidentally saw this DVD set at a Barnes & Noble bookstore, on sale, I grabbed it. The set has 5 discs. The first four contain one of the 4 major parts of the show: Blackadder, Blackadder II, Blackadder the Third (my favorite!), and Blackadder Goes Forth. Each part consists of 6 episodes. The fifth disc has Blackadder Back & Forth, a separate episode filmed in 2005, long after the series was over, and The Making of Blackadder Back & Fourth. The set also includes Blackadder's Christmas Carol.
The series stars Rowan Atkinson playing 5 different Edmund Blackadders, separated in time; it is implied that each new one is a descendant of the others. The series can be best described by the phrase "wickedly funny." A lot of the humor borders on inappropriate, definitely not appropriate for children, especially in the second part of the show. The series is smart and silly at the same time; some of the episodes I can watch over and over again, others I don't really care for. Still, for a Blackadder fan like myself, it is nice to have this full set.
Full sets are great. British humor, too droll!
