Electronics / Digital Cameras / Nikon D40

This camera has proven itself more than worthy of its already reduced pricetag. It is the first SLR I have owned and has not disappointed me in any way, shape or form. It is quick to focus, takes sharp, crisp detailed images and has dramatically improved the quality of my photographs. Although I don't get to use it as often as i'd like, it gives me pleasure to use it every time.

The camera takes an SD card which are cheap as chips these days. It focuses quickly on subjects close up but can have trouble in mid and long ranges on some occassions. It has a manual focus ring which is useful in such instances. It isn't terribly effective at macro shots with the kit lens that it comes with though i'm sure this would be improved with the addition of a macro lens or extension tube. Battery life is superb, hundreds of photos per charge, and the flash is powerful when necessary, and adjusts itself when not needed as much. I would strongly recommend this camera as a first time SLR user.
