HSBC direct is the most conveniant savings account I have ever had. It makes it easy, and even fun. to save those pennies. Because of the low overhead, online operation, and limited services available, this company can give you a great interest rate on your money. I signed up when the rate was 4.5%, and it is now 4.25, which is still an amazing rate for a savings account. It's easy to sign up, just follow the online directions. Because you aren't going to see a teller face to face, there are a few steps involved in the sign-up process, such as verification of your bank account, but its all very convenient and done online. As long as you can access your regular checking account online, you don't have to leave your seat.  I just hate to go somewhere and do all this stuff if I can take care of it from my computer.  As long as you do not cancel your account within the first 6 months, there are NO FEES. None. Zip. You can attach it to your checking account at your local bank, which is awesome, because you don't even have to worry about how your money will get into savings. You just use the handy-dandy transfer process and set it up yourself. I love that it is all online, so that I don't have to stand in line, or talk to a receptionist, or call anyone. It makes you completely in control of your money. There are other ways to save your money online at HSBCdirect.com, too. They offer online CDs and payment accounts,too. Just log once in awhile to see how quickly your money adds up when you barely seem to notice it missing from your checking account. I have never had such an easy time saving money, and it's because HSBC takes it from my checking account before I even realize it's there. Amazing.
