For many years I have gotten the glass gazing balls for my garden. The biggest problem that I had would be them breaking. On an average I would have to buy a new one each year because wind would either blow it off the stand and it would break or storing it over the winter would sometimes get knocked and break. So I found an alternative to the repeated purchase. Gardner's Supply which is home based not far from me in Burlington Vermont carries the metal gazing ball. This company also has a catelog and an online store. The balls are made from copper and coated metals. They don't smash or discolor, they don't even rust. Wonderful...Wonderful product. They may be costly upfront but they are sure to last a long time and you no longer need to be sooooo careful!!
