Seashell Stepping Stone, Too Pretty for the Garden

While shopping at the Cape Cod Factory Outlet I came across this beautiful stepping stone that I just had to buy! Although I wasn’t sure exactly how I was going to use it, it just really fit into what I was trying to do with my home… and although I would have liked to pick up several of them I was trying to stay on a decorating budget, so I bought one.

The stepping stone is made of resin. The stone itself is circular and edged in a braided rope design. In the center of the stone is a raised clam shell, detailed with ridges and a nice realistic coloring. The seashell appears to be lying in the sand and is surrounded by other shells, a couple of star fish and a sand dollar.

The entire design looked more like art than a garden paving stone… and as it turned out that is exactly what it ended up being.

Believe it or not I hung this stone up on my bathroom wall.

It looks right at home on my bathroom wall and fits in perfectly with the décor that I selected for that room… so as it turned out although I wanted a half dozen of these, one was all I really needed.

Although I purchased this stone nearly 10 years ago, it has hung on the wall almost the entire time so I cannot rate it for weather resistance or skid resistance. Since the stone is resin and has many raised parts I am thinking that it may be slippery when wet. The color looks like it is actually in the resin other than being painted onto it, so I would think that it would weather well outside.

  • I loved this stepping stone Bosoxy. But even more, I love what you did with it. What a creative idea! Because it is resin, I'd tend to think you are right about it possibly being slippery.

    • Thank you froggy! When I first decided to put it up on the wall I wondered if people would think I was a bit off... but then I figured, oh well! But I have only heard positive remarks on it and am happy that I actually thought of it as it was like that final touch that really makes the bathroom pretty. In my home there is all guys and me... even the dog is a boy... so a pretty bathroom is like... well, my one spot and it is a shared bathroom so it couldn't be too feminine.

  • I love beachy things! This would be perfect in our side bed--no walking there--as a decoration. We don't have a Cape Cod Factory Outlet. I wonder if they have a website...I'll have to check on that.
