Health / Cold and Flu Medications / Anefrin 12 hour, No Drip Nasal Spray

Anefrin is a Walgreen’s store brand Nasal Spray. It is the Severe Congestion, No Drip, 12 hour formula.  The box says to compare to the active ingredients in Afrin Severe congestion.

When I asked the pharmacist which nasal spray was the best she said they were all pretty much the same so I went with the one that was less expensive. I paid $6.99 for the ½ fluid oz bottle. This was may be only a dollar or two less than other “name brand” sprays but, I like saving money where I can.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05%...nasal decongestant

Product packaging says that this will temporarily relieve the symptoms of nasal congestion due to colds and allergies. It works by shrinking swollen membranes so you can breathe more freely.

DIRECTIONS

Well…it’s a nasal spray so…you spray it up your nose! LOL! Ok….directions say to use 2-3 sprays per nostril…every 10-12 hours. DO NOT use it more often.

Anefrin comes in a bottle with an “applicator” that distributes the medicine in a very fine mist. This is great because it makes getting/ putting it up your nose more comfortable.

MY EXPERIENCE
YAY!!! It works! I am so happy with this stuff! It really does its job! I used it as directed; it works for the good 10-12 hours just like it says it will. The sinus pressure was gone; I had no weird side effects caused by it. No over drying. None of the stuff ran back out of my nose, none of it ran down the back of my throat. I am always happy when I find a product that saves me money but also DOES WHAT IT SAYS IT WILL DO!!!

One thing that I found “weird” feeling at first was when you first spray it, it kind of burns…but I would describe it more like a menthol feeling. I mean spraying stuff up your nose is odd to begin with! But over all it didn’t bother me much and was not an overwhelming sensation...just noticeably weird. Worth it to me! This product so works! I would recommend it if you need a nasal spray!

  • I have used the Afrin nasal spray. It was probably, the best in this product line. They do claim they are all the same, but I did notice less side effects with the Afrin. Since Anefrin is comparable I am not surprised you found it to be a helpful product. By the way, I had the same weird feeling when first using it.
