Health / Cold and Flu Medications / Not Your Best Cold Remedy

flu night caplets image

The last time I had a cold, I made the mistake of sending my husband to buy me some cold medicine. I asked him to buy the combination pack of Dayquil & Nightquil caplets as this is what I narmally take for a cold. He could not find what I asked for so he talked to the Pharmacist and he recommended Comtrex Day & Night.

This package contains 10 coated daytime caplets and 10 coated nightime caplets. The daytime formula is supposed to help relieve nasal congestion, sorethroat pain, headache and coughing. The nighttime formula is supposed to relieve the same symptoms as the daytime plus it has a antihistamine to help you sleep.

I gave this medicine a rating of 3 because while the nighttime formula worked fine, the daytime helped me very little. Since I wasn't going anywhere, I ended up taking the nighttime formula during the daytime. While this did make me a little drowsy, it did help to relieve my symptoms so I could get some rest.

The ingredients listed on the box are acetaminophen, chlorphenramine maleate (nighttime formula only), phenylephrine hci, dextromethorphan hbr.

While the nighttime formula did give me some relief, I don't think I would purchase this medicine again because of the daytime formula's lack of effectiveness.
