Bye Bye Stye!

I hate styes! I don't think I've had one since I was a child, but one day recently, I woke up with my eyelid hurting, and a little swollen. By the end of the day, I was sure it was a stye. I decided to see what was available over the counter, and chose to use a product called Stye Sterile Lubricant Eye Ointment. Yes, Stye is the trademark name. I got it at Walmart, along with some eye drops of another brand (specifically for styes) that I will probably review later.

This product does not claim to heal the infection that causes a stye. It simply offers symptomatic relief from the burning. itching, and swelling that often accompanies a stye. It is for the eyelid, and not for inside the eye, though I am sure it is to be expected that a little will work its way into the eye, because the lid is so close. (It has been Ophthalmologist tested.)

A stye is simply a pimple in the area of the eyelashes, and antibiotics are often not necessary. Of course, if the irritation persists or gets worse, you should seek medical advice. One of the most helpful things you can do is apply a moist, warm compress to the area. This helps greatly with swelling and inflammation, and often causes the stye to drain.

I found this Stye ointment (along with the Similasan eye drops) to help a lot. I still have a very small, hard area there on the eyelid, but it is not nearly as sore anymore, and will probably resolve on its own. The ointment helped so much with the pain. I usually put it on just at night, but sometimes I used it morning and night. I am very pleased with this product, and would definitely use it again, if needed.

  • I've used Stye before and while it did not cure my stye, it sure did give me some relief.

  • ouch! I don't get bad styes, but every now and then I get several tiny bumps on my eyelid that aren't in themselves painful, but it KILLS to blink. I wonder if this product would work on them, too?
