Amana 16 SEER 2 Ton Air Conditioner Cools Our Home

The first purchase when we bought our house was to put in central air conditioning.  Now some 30 years later we had to replace it with a much needed newer and more energy efficient unit.  Along with a new furnace (separate review) the Amana Model ASX16024 - 16 SEER, 2 Ton, 2 Stage Air Conditioner was our choice.

We were able to get a better deal buying the furnace and air conditioner together so the price I have listed would be for the air conditioning alone if we had gone that route. 

Checking out high efficiency cooling units was high on our list of priorities.  Not having to check into this before I had no idea what a SEER rating was.  We knew our old freon unit was a thing of the past so we tried to do the homework before making our choice.

Our new Amana air conditioner rated tops with us for these reasons:

  **16 SEER - this stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating developed by the US government and manufacturers to give us an energy consumption rating that we could easily understand.  The lower the SEER rating the more electricity is needed to do the job of cooling your home.  The higher the SEER rating means less electricity is needed to do the same job and lower energy bills each month.  Since the electricity rates contnue to go up each year we wanted the best SEER rating that would work for our home size.  

  **R-410A Chlorine-Free Refrigerant - With all the attention to ozone layers and going green this was also an important part of buying this Amana unit.  In checking this out I found that in 2010 all new air conditioning and heat pumps will be required to use chlorine-free refrigerants.  So not only were we getting great new air air conditioning but doing our little part in helping the environment to boot.

  **2-Stage UltraTech Copeland Scroll Compressor 

  **Lifetime Unit Replacement Warranty - if our compressor should ever fail we will be provided with a new condensing unit as long as we are the original purchasers and live in our home.

  **10-Year Limited Parts - any remaining parts and repairs are covered by this warranty in addition to the above.  All we needed to do for these warranties was to register  within 60 days of our installation.  Why would someone not register?

When I came home the day of installtion I walked into a cool house that has remained that way in each and every room of the house.  Before, we had hot spots depending on what room you were in, especially our family room which got all the afternoon sun and could be 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house due to the large windows and sliding door.   

Amana has certainly come through for us with the purchase of this central air conditioning unit and furnace for our home.  The outside unit is super quiet compared to our old unit and cannot be heard unless you are outside sitting close to it.  We would highly recommend Amana as the name to check out if you are in need to cool your home.  As I mentioned in my Amana furnace review we received out first new electrical bill for the month of August and our bill was cut in half!   We also have a $1500 energy tax credit to use next year plus an added bonus of a cash rebate of $950.00 from our electrical and gas companies.
