Our house, which was built several decades ago, has a basement that is partially underground. Old houses built like this usually have some dampness in the basement so it is best to keep dry as possible. I use a dehumidifier to help keep the basement dry. Dehumidifiers help to clean the air and protect furniture and other items. They also help with allergies by keeping mold from happening.
Recently my old dehumidifier quit working so I had to get a new one. I looked at several and found the Frigidaire 50 pint dehumidifier. It has a humidity sensor. This dehumidifier can run continuously or it can be set to allow humidity in the basement to be between 35% to 85 %. The bucket holds a lot and can be heavy to carry but it has a handle and you can empty it before it fills completely up. It shuts off when it gets full and a red light blinks signaling its time to empty the bucket. It has a hose drain connection but does not come with a hose. This is not a problem for me. This dehumidifier is advertised to run quietly which is not exactly true. You can hear it but it’s not a loud annoying sound so, again, no problem for me.
Over all I am very pleased with the Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier. The basement smells cleaner and seems drier.

Not in need of a dehumidifier, but sounds like a good one
I just purchased this unit at BestBuy and can't begin to praise its performance. My house was built in the 70's with a partial basement and french drain. I dreaded the summer months because the basement always felt damp and had a musty odor. I while searching in a near by big box home improvement store I met a guy who was looking for a dehumidifier too. He said that I should look into a 50pint and it would do the trick. Boy it is. I love the Frigidaire brand and this works great.
We need this for our basement.
Thanks, Rae. I just bought this model because of your review. You forgot to write that it's an Energy Saver that will shut itself off and turn itself on when you set the humidity level you want, a feature that I just love about it. And for $6, I bought the drainage hose from Lowe's so I wouldn't have to worry about emptying it. I also got it shipped to my house for free from Amazon, and I only paid $179 for the unit. Woo-hoo!!
That's a good deal. Smart idea getting a drainage hose.
