Comforter Of Many Colors

When my daughter graduated from high school, and moved out, I decided to do a makeover on her small room. My thought was to create a mini-retreat for myself; another room where I could write and find escape. My favorite theme throughout my house is a mixture of Victorian and Oriental design. I have found that the two flow quite well together. My daughter's room is painted a soft pink, with new accents of lavender, deep purple, and rose.

While walking through Penney's one day, intending to buy a crock pot, my eyes fell on a beautiful comforter with large patchwork squares in lavender, pink, rose and deep purple. Sequins were scattered over some of the squares. It was called Arabian Nights, and right on the spot, I fell in love! The poor crock pot was jilted for this amazing rainbow comforter! If you would like to see a picture of it, go to www.seventeen.com and look for the store. It is "hip" enough for my daughter to also enjoy, when she comes to visit.

Mine is a Seventeen Twin Comforter Set, (Arabian Nights), which includes the comforter, one standard decorative pillow sham, and a beautiful deep pink bedskirt. It is made of 100% polyester, and they do recommend that you dry clean it, most likely due to the delicate sequins. However, I have purchased a lavender Seventeen comforter, in the past, that also had sequins, and it washed up beautifully in cold water, on the delicate cycle, so this one probably would also. While it might not be practical for rough, everyday use, it is perfect for a guest room or study. Though the retail price is $89.99, I got mine for $10.00 off, so look for sales in the linen and bedding department at Penney's.

When I got it on the bed, I was delighted. I keep a Gone With The Wind antique lamp on in that room, and I enjoy walking by and smiling at my comforter of many colors.

  • This sounds better! And it's not suprising that Victorian and Oriental go well together; if I'm remembering my style history correctly, the Victorians were fond of things Oriental (or was it the Regency era? I don't remember! Ah, the memory is the first thing to go!)
