Household / Candles / Home Fragrances / Where's The Caramel Scent?

Recently, I have enjoyed using some of the battery operated flameless tea light candles, so when I saw this flameless pillar candle at TJ Maxx, I thought I would give it a try. I especially liked the idea that it was scented, and caramel is one of my favorite fragrances. But much to my disappointment, there was absolutely no scent that came from it.

The candle is made from real wax, and very much resembles a normal candle, when it is not lit. When it is lit, the candle "flame" flickers a little too fast to look real. The LED bulb is advertised to last 100,000 hours. (No-that was not a typo.) It runs on 3 "AAA" batteries, and of course, the advantages to a flameless candle are the safety factors, and the fact that there are no drips, or wicks to trim. However, no matter how real they try to make these, they will never take the place of a real flame, in my opinion.

However, there are many reasons to choose flameless candles. Recently, when my mom was in a Nursing Home Facility for rehab, I often took her on picnics to the atrium. Because it was a retirement community, candles were not allowed in any of the rooms, or public areas. So I took the flameless tea lights, and a pretty candle holder, and we were still able to eat by candlelight. Another great thing about flameless candles, is they can be placed on a bookcase shelf (with a shelf above them) without risk of a fire. So they can go places, that candles with flames couldn't. And of course, if you have little ones around, the flameless candles are much safer for your family.

Flameless candles are a great alternative to regular candles in some circumstances, but I would not advise buying this one by Orbit, if you are wanting a caramel scent. You will definitely be disappointed. Perhaps I will try another brand of flameless scented candles, before giving up. I do enjoy the tea lights very much, and was interested to see them, on a Christmas buffet that I attended, at a large hotel.

  • I have a few flameless candles but they all need batteries now, so they aren't serving much purposed. But I think they are also great around kids.
