you snooze, you lose

Once our second child had arrived and quickly began to outgrow her bassinett, my husband and i went on a search for a toddler bed.  We found a cute, simple bed at Ikea: the Sniglar.  Ikea makes sturdy furniture, inexpensive, and durable.  I thought we had hit the jackpot.  We brought the bed home and assembled it for our daughter.  She actually "helped."  Everything was going along swimmingly, until we went to put sheets on the bed.  Since Ikea is Swedish, they don't use the same standard sizes that American furniture does.  It did not occur to us that a toddler bed wouldn't be the same size as "normal" toddler beds.  All the cute sheets that we had purchased (Princess, Elmo, etc) don't fit this mattress.  We had to make another trip to Ikea just to buy sheets, that only come in primary red, blue or white.  Not very girly.

Dimensions: Length: 63 "
Width: 27 1/2 "
Height: 24 3/4 "

I love how easy it was to put this bed together, and it is as sturdy as can be.  The price is very reasonable.  My daughter loves that it is low enough to the ground that she can climb in and out on her own without a step stool, and the guard rail keeps her in the bed without looking like a safety rail on a hospital bed.

Overall, I am not pleased with this purchase. While I am not in a rush to replace the bed at this time, I will not be purchasing another one for our second daughter.
