Huggies don't hug my baby!

At my baby shower, I was given several packs of diapers, including Huggies Newborn Gentle Care diapers and a few other brands. Since I had heard wonderful things about Huggies from some experienced moms, I decided to try the Huggies first.

The Newborn Gentle Care diapers have a u-shaped front. This supposedly prevents the diaper from rubbing against the newborn's tender cord stump. This was about the only part of the diaper that worked. I realize that babies are shaped differently, and different diapers will fit differently, but these diapers were a horrible fit for my baby! My son was not born small or big...just an average 8.1 pounds, 22 inches. However, the Huggies gapped around his legs, and his waist was swallowed by the size one diaper.

Within minutes of putting the diaper on, we were both drenched in pee. Not fun when you are recovering from a c-section! We tried the Huggies again, and the same thing happened, only the second time I had more than just pee to deal with. After a third time of these diapers doing nothing to contain the flow, we switched to the diapers they had at the hospital, Pampers Swaddlers. We've stayed with Pampers and haven't had more than a handful of blow-outs since!

Perhaps my boy's legs were just too thin, but shouldn't newborn diapers take thin legs into account? My suggestion is to skip the cheap Huggies and spend more on the Pampers....believe me, you get what you pay for!!
