Kids / Feeding Aids / Individually Wrapped Disposable Nursing Pads

I received a box of Disposable Nursing Pads made by The First Years as a baby shower gift.  I have tried a few other brands of nursing pads with my first child, but I had never tried The First Years, so I was very anxious to see how well they would work for me.

The best thing about them is that they're packaged with two pads wrapped together, a great way to keep them clean so that you can keep a spare set of pads in your diaper bag, purse, car, pump case, etc.  Most of the other nursing pads that I had used were all packaged together, so if you wanted to keep an extra set with you, you'd have to use a ziploc baggie or something similar to keep them clean.  However, the downside to the individual packaging is that there is now more waste, which is never good for the environment.

This pad is fairly thick, I'd say 1/8" to 1/4" which is great if you're a heavy leaker, but if not then you really don't need all that thickness.  With the thickness, you also have to have a bra that works with the pad so that you don't get a tell-tale line under your shirts.

I've also had some problems with wandering pads....all of a sudden I'll find one falling out of my shirt!  That is quite embarrassing if it happens while in public, to say the least.  I'm not sure why this phenomenon occurs, but it's happened to me on a couple occasions.  From what I can tell, the pad's back that is against the inner cup of your bra must be smooth enough to kind of slip right out.

This nursing pad does what it needs to do, but as a personal preference, I'll stick to a thinner pad without the extra packaging, and something that stays in place a bit better.

  • Wandering Pads...I have had that happen too. I really like the fact that they are wrapped in packs of two, as you said very convient!

  • Yea, you don't need wandering pads. My daughter had this problem with these pads when she tried them. She quickly changed brands. She has no patience with pads that slip and move. Thanks for sharing the information

  • LOL. I hate when that happens. I do like that these are individually wrapped. But I would hate having to situate myself all day.
