Topic: Community ChitChat / When will the new SR be launched?

Ok, hopefully the LAST update :) We are finished testing everything, and are good to go. We are going to sleep for a few hours, and then take the site down at 6am. In testing, all of the work we needed to run took about 6 hours, but the production servers should be faster.

Either way, tomorrow will bring a new day for SharedReviews, finally.

Funny, my wife asked me why I was launching on the 1st of September when I could wait until after the labor day weekend, but I said that was silly and I just couldn’t wait.

She replied “I bet you won’t launch till then anyway.”

(and since I took, and lost the bet)
Honey, you were right, I was wrong, and women are smarter than men

Thanks for the update. I know what kind of problems may arise before a new launch like this and its good that the problems are being solved quickly.

We will wait.

We’ve run into some new problems with the setup of the blog and forums, they’ve been melded into the site, and some of the configuration changes have been causing some tough to track down errors.

We’re working on it, and are very close to solving them. I’m hoping I’ll have an update in a few more hours.

Thanks Jennifer, we’re in the final stages of testing the entire upgrade process in our testing environment for the final time right now. If all goes well, we’re looking at just a few more hours for the site to come down, and a few more hours after that for the new SR to be unveiled.

Just remember, we are going to restrict logins for a couple of more weeks, so the only way for you to share feedback will be on the blog. Make sure that you do! Oh, and we still have a few spots for beta testers who will have early access, you can post your interest on the blog after logins have been closed.

Topic: Community ChitChat / When will the new SR be launched?

I just wanted to give everyone an update, that after another sleepless night things are finally coming together.

All of the scripts have been tested thoroughly and are working. The only remaining items pertain to enhancements for both the hardware and site to increase page speed and overall performance.

These enhancements are being tested as I write this, and I can say with confidence it looks really good to go live late tonight. I’m hoping just after the dinner hour, but considering my track record and the “surprises” these last few days, I’d assume closer to midnight. Thanks for the patience!

Thank you, Peter! Even if we don’t understand everything you say, it’s so much better than a black hole of ?

Hey, you’ve beat my record, which is 60 hours with no sleep. I wasn’t good for much at the end of that, and doubt that I could repeat it.

You mentioned previously that you were going to list the beta testers on Aug 31… any chance you might do that?

Topic: Community ChitChat / When will the new SR be launched?

Yes, as frustrated as all of you, but excited because we’re very close.

The search problems we faced have been corrected, fixed, and applied to both public and profile searches in our test environment. The data massaging is the last bit giving us some headaches.

One of the major points behind this launch was to correct and fix tons of the page code bits so they are proper and work across all browsers. Since we allow the use of a Rich Text Editor for creating reviews and articles that inserts html into every page, we never really did a good job of cleaning the data after an author pasted in whatever they had (from Microsoft Word which inserts tons of garbage code for example).

This caused all kinds of issues when viewing pages, and cost our authors valuable readers in the process. Cleaning it hasn’t been as easy as we had hoped, and are running into edge cases that are breaking our cleaning scripts. We are almost through the entire published article base on our staging servers, and will start the final optimizations shortly afterward. I expect the downtime to come later tonight, then about 6-8 hours to run all of our scripts to clean up the data on the production database, and the new site will be live by morning.

Personally, I’ve slept less than 10 hours since Monday afternoon, so I’m really looking forward to getting this live as well :)

Hi Theodore, apologies, we’re late for a major launch of the new site and haven’t been paying attention to our duties. The queue has been cleared, and great review!

My first article has been in “Admin Review” for several weeks. Since it appears that you are not going to review this article can I remove it from SharedReviews and send it to another publisher?

Topic: News and Announcements / Tonight's Launch delayed 24 hours

Update: It is now late into the evening on September 1st, and although it could be sooner, we will need another 24 hours before releasing the new site. We realize this is most frustrating, but even this partial release of the public interfaces of the site involved a complete strip down and rebuild of the entire site architecture.

We are fine-tuning the new search interfaces, and as soon as those and some cache testing is complete, we will show you the fruit of all the work we put into this release. Thanks for your patience!

The launch was originally planned for the afternoon today, but it’s looking like it’s going to be nearer midnight.

By the time you check the site tomorrow morning you’ll see the new version, hope you like it!

Well its been a few hours now and I am still waiting to see the new SR. But I am a bit disappointed because the SR is not yet launched. It should have been launched at the strike of 00:00 AM

Anyways I would like to know whether there is going to another delay or not.

Thanks Rae777, we appreciate not everyone can participate. We’re just happy for any help from those who can, and we’re excited to finally see the new site go live.

It’s looking like it may a bit later in the day tomorrow than originally anticipated, but we’re at least 98% for the launch before midnight tomorrow. So excited!

I wish i could participate but starting this weekend I have company coming for a week and a new computer coming so it won’t have but one browser on it until I have tested it for a week and a half to make sure I am satisfied with it. I am excited to see the new site though!

Topic: General Support / Changing Email Address?

Everything is going to change big time tomorrow. Meanwhile, you can change your PayPal email by clicking Edit Profile in the right column bars.

If you want to change the base email, I think you have to ask Peter.

I think there are going to be two weeks where people can’t log in while the new site is being tested.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Topic: General Support / Changing Email Address?

Now mind you, it’s been quite some time since I trolled Shared Reviews, it is obvious many things have changed during my absence. It might also be because it is early AM and I’m still half asleep, but how do I change the email address on my account? Is that an option? I don’t currently use the email attached to my account and would like to update to one I regularly check.

We’ve had to start implementing restrictions as the September 1st deadline approaches. Apologies, the Feedback Forum will be available again once all authors are allowed access to the site in mid September.

Sounds like a good plan. There have always been things the “real” users found whenever there was an upgrade, and this time it’s so new, there may be more.

Seven new items sounds much more manageable than 14, which is what it sounded like.

We’re only talking about 7 content items at the minimum, which shouldn’t be too time consuming (especially with the new streamlined content creation interface), but yes, if someone is busy during those weeks they wouldn’t be able to commit to the daily participation anyhow.

The role is more for testing and finding bugs, not for content generation, we just want to make sure the new publishing interfaces are put through their paces. Writers of all skills and experience are welcome to apply.

Sounds interesting. The requirement to publish every day will, I expect, exclude some folks who might be good, but may not have time during those particular weeks.
