"Neumann K184 Small Condenser Microphone"
I am recording classical guitar duets, trios and quartets along with some solo guitar stuff. I have used a number of microphones over the years: audio technica, sure etc (all around the $500 CAD range). I recently started to use a AKG 414 and was so impressed with what a higher level microphone had to offer, I began to budget for another one for my home studio. I got the AKG 4...

I use my Mac Book Pro for music recording in my home studio and I am very pleased I made the $2200 CAD purchase for a 30" Mac Cinema display. It has transformed my work flow and greatly aided in making Logic Pro easier to manoeuvre through. There are a lot of tricks that you can use to make smaller screens very usable but there is no substitution for screen real-estate. With ...

I have used Kengsington's trackballs for my music recording as the manner in which I used to record required some rather long scrolling at times. I have actually changed the manner in which I approach things but I still use the trackball as I have become a big fan of this input device. I am online for my work and I like the trackball as you can custom program each of the four ...

"Mac Book Pro 17" Laptop"
I am very pleased with my new Macbook pro 17" laptop but had to give 4 out of 5 as my previous Powerbook had a severe hardware failure. I was told I needed to replace the motherboard at the cost of $1,200 CAD. I therefore decided to buy a new laptop. I use my Mac laptop for my music recording exclusively. I am running Logic Pro and can see that this new laptop is quite a ...

"Digital Recording Has Arrived - Logic Pro"
I have been involved with teaching and recording guitar for the past 10 years. When the first digital work stations came out such as the Roland VS-2480, our shop tried to use these units to record some of our student's and teacher's guitar playing. I was disappointed with the sound quality of these recordings and concluded that a lot of compression was being used/built in ...

"Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 I/O"
I couldn't find the category for this unit and have filed it under home audio for lack of a better category. The Focusrite digital to audio converter is what I ended up using for my homestudio. I want to make things very clear: it sounds fantastic. However, this hardware is a bit fussy to work with, has a really poorly written user manual for a product that has so much functio...

For the price range, this microphone does a great job and can supply its own power via the 9v battery it has so one does not need phantom power. However, I want to share that I have other more expensive microphones such as a Neumann 184 and really want to emphasize that if someone is passionate about their recording project, they should save up and get the best microphone that they can....

I want to be clear, I am recording acoustic guitar playing and most of this guitar playing is on nylon string instruments. I have tried a number of recording methods; usually on the cheap for many a year - recording onto 4 tracks with Sure SM57s etc that were kicking around. I recently got into using my computer and recording digitally through a high quality, although fussy, Focusrite a...

I owned a HP Pavillion 7000 for two and a half years. During this time, I traveled with it quite a bit and used it as my primary computer. I wanted a 17" screen and was very happy with the computer at first as I had been working off of a slower 15" laptop for a few years before. However, I have to share that now owning a Toshiba Satellite 17" laptop, I can't rec...

"Bose Companion 3 Multimedia Speakers"
I use my computer for my home sound system and have my iTunes running through the Bose Companion 3 speakers as well. For computer speakers the sound is remarkable. There is a sub but interestingly enough through the Bose technology you don't get a humping bass and you can have higher music levels while living in an apartment etc. I like the sound of these speakers: t...
