Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router

The Linksys WRT54G router is the perfect addition to any home to get you on to the world of wireless computing. We bought this item because we have two laptops that have wireless capability and a desktop with the internet. So it was a no brain decision really.  This itme is nice because it can use rates up to 54Mbps (which is five tims faster than 802.11b) and in can interact with 802.11b clients at around 11Mbps.  There is 4 ports on the back which would let you hook up at least four more Wired computers into your network if you really wanted. Another nice feature about this router is that is has a more advanced wireless security with 128-bit encruption and then MAC or IP address filtering. You can manage access to your router online from the comfort of your home, so you have the power to determine who can use your network. Now the hookup part is extremely easy or so I think as I am not 100% sure I did everything right, but it works and I am happy.  It comes with all the necessary startup disks (drivers and such) that load up on your computer with a very easy to follow instructions. In fact when you put the disk in it will guide you step by step as to what you need to plug in where. It even tells you which items (modem, router Computer) to turn on first when getting ready to finish the final step.  The basics is that your Cable goes to your modem which then has an ethernet cable (included) to go to your router. From any of the routers 4 ports you connect another ethernet cable (included) and run that into you computer. you turn on the items and Viola you have a wireless network. The disks instructions are laid out just like those "for Dummies" books.

  4. I don't know if it is because we are on a fiberoptics line, but Belkins just would not work for us. We finally went with Lynksis, and even then it took pro installation.
