The computer game John Deere American Farmer lets you experience life on the farm. You start with a character and a plot of farm land. There is place to build barns with enclosures for animals and open ground where you can plant crops. You have the option for free play or you can play one of several scenarios that have specific goals.
In this farm tycoon style PC game, you can raise beef cattle, hogs, or dairy cows. Pay attention to your budget when choosing types of feed, employees to hire to help you out, and what equiptment to buy. If you plant crops such as sunflowers, wheat, or soybeans, you must watch for insects and weed growth. A variety of tractors, harvesters, and other farm tools can be purchased.
This game is fun to play and can be educational for chidren as well. Some of the scenarios are too easy to complete to be interesting. Setting employees on automatic turns it into a simple waiting game. However, experimenting with different animals and crops can provide hours of interest.
