The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Share and Enjoy:

Four siblings - Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie - step through a magical wardrobe into a different world called Narnia... The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis is one of my favorite books. Thanks to today's computer technology, Narnia came alive in this movie, with all its amazing creatures: fauns, centaurs, talking animals, and of course the magnificent Lion - Aslan.

I couldn't wait to see Narnia on the screen, and, for the most part, I was not disappointed. The movie follows the book; there are some minor deviations, but I would say they are insignificant. The cast is good, especially Georgie Henley as Lucy, the youngest of the four Pevensie children. She perfectly fits my mental picture of Lucy after reading the book, and her acting is superb. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about William Moseley who playes her brother Peter; I found his performance somewhat lacking. Mr. Tumnus the faun is another personal favorite, excellently brought to life by James McAvoy (with some help from computer animation).

Extra features are great, especially the WETA workshop where you can see how all those Narnian creatures were made. Commentaries from the director Andrew Adamson and some of the actors are also interesting,

  2. I was pretty happy with how they adapted this for the screen. They left out a couple of my favorite lines, but overall it was a winner. I feel more ambivalent about Prince Caspian.

    1. I watched Prince Caspian yesterday... It was okay, but Aslan should look MUCH BIGGER!
