Best In Show

Best in Show comes to us from the brilliant mind of Christopher Guest, who is also known for directing Waiting for Guffman and for writing This is Spinal Tap. As he often does, Guest uses the mockumentary film type to present a dog show. There are several different types of dogs, and several different owners of the dogs. Highlights include Eugene Levy as the owner of a terrier and Fred Willard as a wacky announcer.

One of my favorite things about this movie is Fred Willard. He does a great job as an announcer, befuddling the more tenured announcer by asking off the wall questions and making odd observations. Another thing I really like about the movie are the wacky dog owners. Eugene Levy and his wife make up a song about their terrier, which  makes me laugh so hard when I see them perform it. There are other dogs (such as a bloodhound and a poodle), and Guest chooses actors who mirror the looks and personalities of these dogs. It is just a really funny movie and an interesting take on the usual subject of dog shows.
