Being young and liberal, I thoroughly enjoy all of Michael Moore’s documentaries, but I was hesitant about watching “Sicko.” It is not that I do not care about the health care crisis, but I felt that I had heard all I could possibly hear about the topic. Wrong.
Moore opened my eyes to how 3rd world countries have better, more affordable health care than we do. Heck, during the movie I got online and tried to look at how much real estate in France or London would cost! For me, the most surprising part of this movie was how a group of 9-11 firefighters couldn’t get/afford treatment here in the USA, so Moore takes them to Cuba. Yup, Cuba. There they got awesome, quick, and FREE treatment. It was quality health care, quality health professionals, and did I mention FREE? Yeah, I guess I did. I was so surprised and appalled by how unfair the health care system is in the USA. I am grateful for the many freedoms we have, but as everything keeps rising in price yet our wages don’t, it makes one wonder why we cannot figure out a way to help our fellow America citizens get at least something free. That something should be universal healthcare.
Go into this documentary with an open mind, and I am sure you will learn a lot.
