The Mask (1994)
When it first came out, The Mask had blown me away with its special effects. I guess back in 1994, what computers could add to a movie was still very new, and all the impossible transformations that took place onscreen were more fascinating. As I look at this film today, there is really nothing else to it: it's a lght entertainment flick based solely on visual effects.
The plot is more than simple: Stanley (Jim Carrey), a shy bank clerk somewhat down on his luck, finds a mysterious mask; the mask happens to be made by the Norse god Loki known as a god of mischief. So when Stanley puts the mask on, he gets supernatural powers and insatiable desire to have fun, mischeaf included. The over-the-top antics of the green-faced creature Stanley turns into are funny to watch, but no longer so amazing as they were back in 1994 when I remember myself stopping and rewinding the film to see the "supernatural" parts once again.
This DVD has four mildly interesting featurettes, two deleted scenes, and a couple of audio commentaries.
