The TI-30X IIS is a very solid scientific calculator made by Texas Instruments. The reason that I bought this version was that with all my experience with other scientific calculators, this was the most simple, efficient, and best looking calculator available. Also considering the cheap price, it was a good buy as well. Most classes throughout high school and definitely into college require a scientific calculator and do not allow graphing calculators because graphing kinds are able to store information (notes, etc). This is why most students need to have both kinds. This scientific has a very wide range of functions and does very well in providing what is needed. The battery has never died on me (I believe it is partially solar powered) and it is very sturdy. I recommend this model for the combination of price and ease.

I used a TI financial calculator for years. One day I found a duplicate of the one I paid for, laying in an alley. Both have served me for over 30 years. The batter just died on one.
Sounds like a great calculator -- and a great price, too! I'm not going to be looking for calculators at Staples anymore, I'm headed to Target. This may have more than I need, but you've gotta love that price, and Texas Instruments has been making good calculators for a looooong time now!
