I love this series! I was shocked, astounded and blown away the very first time I wateched it on dvd. I am a self-professed nerd, love the old-style sci-fi shows as that is what I grew up with; when I first heard that Battlestar Galactica was bring remade I vowed to never watch it. A few weeks ago a friend got me to sit down and watch the mini-series with her as she loves the show and knew I would too. Well, she was right!
I was so impressed with everything about it, acting, effects, storyline and well, adult orientation, that I ordered my own set of dvd's that night. This is not a retelling of the 1980's version; this is a whole other show! I love that I don't know what is going to happen, the plot is not simplistic and neither is the storytelling; I love the fact that the writers are writing a show for adults and not for the teen set, it is very refreshing. The acting is incredibe as well, and they do homage the original, which I found very respectful and made this 40 year old squee like a fangirl.
They don't shy away from hard topics, death, torture, grief, politics and I certainly will not allow the kids to watch it until they are over 14 as it's a tad graphic with sex, at least on the dvds. The SciFi channel doesn't rerun this show except once a year so haven't seen how much they cut it for broadcast but I am sure it gets more than a few edits for content.
If you love Sci-Fi show and are at a loss as to what show to watch that won't be a rehash of old shows, this is the show for you; it will not disappoint.
The dvds ae well-packaged, eash disc is in it's own plastic case which fits into a cardboard case, pretty much like a book. Not so pleased with the cardboard as it is showing so wear and it's new. But the casing is pretty much standard in the industry when it's a multi-disc set. This set contains the entire season one shows as well as the debut mini-series.
