Team Players And Work

  Team Players and Work is a book we used at work for Team Building.  We each got a copy of the book and read a chapter a week, then met to discuss the book.  I really enjoyed this book.  It goes into detail that there are four styles of team players and what those styles are.  My team read a chapter of this book once a week, then we met to discuss it.  At the end, we took a personality profile to see what our style was.  It was amazing how so many people saw themselves, versus what the profile revealed. 

  As a team, my boss had us read this for team building.  I don't really think it helped our group that much, but I got a lot from it.  I am now a manager at another company and I keep some key points in mind about this book.  One thing it brings out is that for your organization to be successful, you must have all 4 personality types represented and there should be somewhat of a balance.  You don't want to be heavy in 1 personality type because it throws the group out of balance.   The types are: contributors, collaborators, communicators, and challengers.  It is also possible for team members to have qualities from each type, but they will be more of one or maybe even 2 types.  As a manager, it is information to keep in mind when hiring new people for your team.

  The book is a little dated, but the principles still apply.
