I purchased this vacuum as a replacement for an older with bag model I'd had before. I wanted this model because I've had good experience with Eureka in the past, the price was ideal, and I liked the way it looked. Additionally, I thought the HEPA filter was an added bonus.
The first two months I had the vacuum were pretty good. From there, the Altima's performance gradually decreased. At this point, I've had the vacuum for several months and I am now shopping for a new one, as it is barely useable. It picks up next to nothing and regularly spouts out chunks of dust, dirt, hair, etc. This happens even when the dust cup is less than half full.
As for the warranty, that is even more useless than the vacuum itself. I called Eureka and big surprise, they couldn't do anything to solve my issue.
The pros of the Altima are its' price, appearance, the ease of cleaning the dust cup, and the attachments are great and easy to use. However, none of these things are helpful when you have a vacuum that doesn't pick things up! The cons are obviously, the poor performance and the heft of the machine (quite a chore to lift up and down the stairs).
If you are considering this vacuum, do yourself and favor and begin researching another model and/or brand. The Altima is a HUGE disappointment.

I also had this vacuum, and it did the same thing to me after less than a year. I took it apart myself, and could not figure out what was wrong. The hose still works, so I use it in the basement, but it does nothing on the carpet or floor. To get it looked at was not worth the price (at a repair shop).
We bought the exact same vacuum & what a disappointment! Same exact problems as you had. Even though it's reasonably priced it's way better to buy a vacuum that will last longer than a few months. I've moved to a Dyson now! I love it!
