Sonicare E5500 toothbrush, scrubs them teeth good!
Share and Enjoy:
The Sonicare E5500 electric toothbrush created quite a bit of excitement when I told my dentist I had gotten one and had just began to use it. He said that was all he used and that he was sure I would notice a great difference, a trrific improvement of my teeth. I was a little leary of the brush, as I have very sensitive teeth. However the Sonicare toothbrush has a setting where the speed starts off slow and daily gets faster and faster to slowly break you in - get you used to the sonic vibrations of the brush. While the brush made my teeth feel marvelous, a fresh from the dentist clean with no residue left over, by the time it got up to full speed I was afraid to put it in my mouth. If I hit a filling at a certain angle, the vibrations of the brush made me scream out in agony. It was also difficult to spit and rinse in the middle of the brushing cycle, which is a timed 3 minutes. Sure, you can push the button and turn it off, but then the fear of putting it back in my mouth and accidently hitting a filling made me cringe. Truth be told, as nice as the end result of the Sonicare E5500 were, I have stopped using it. It's a great toothbrush if you don't have overly sensitve teeth with lots of fillings. I do believe if this toothbrush was available 15-20 years ago, maybe my teeth would not be so bad - so sensitive - and I could use the toothbrush more.

I have to agree with you, this toothbrush is a little to powerful for people that have sensitive teeth. I've tried it myself and the way it vibrates is a little too much for me to handle. I stopped using mine too.
Sorry this didn't work out. I love my Sonicare but have to admit it took some getting use to! Way different feel than brushing with a manual toothbrush.
Thanks for sharing and your honest feelings on this model of electric toothbrush. At least you gave it a try and I understand it would be hard with sensitive teeth, that is my problem too. Great job!
Thanks for all the honest information. I don't use electronic toothbrushes because of this problem. I have yet to find one that will work with my sensitive teeth.
I believe that the newest SoniCare toothbrush also has less of a vibration so it might be easier on those of you with sensitive teeth. The brush also has a slimmer design and can be purchased with or without a UV sanitizing unit.
I hate that it hurt your teeth to use, but I agree that if some of these products had been around sooner some folks would have healtheir teeth and gums.
I had a similar experience with this and one other brnd of electric toothbrush. My feeling is they are great dental health adjuncts for most people, but not if you have extremely sensitive teeth and gums.

I like that it slowly works up to full speed over time, that sounds like a great feature. Too bad it's too hard on your sensitive teeth though :(
I just got this not too long ago and really like it. So far I haven't had any problems with it.

I appreciated reading both your pros & cons on this. I have heard some great things about this & wondered how sensitive teeth might react to it.

I love my sonicare. I'm sorry it hurt your teeth. Mine is a newer one and has a setting for sensitive teeth, if that helps you any.
This sounds like a great electric toothbrush. Thanks for the great information.
