iPod Touch 16GB
Personally I can't afford an AT&T Phone Bill and Contract, so sadly, the iPhone is just not feasible for me to purchase. Enter, the iPod Touch, the next best thing. The iPod Touch is the iPhone without the Phone functions, a larger capacity, and a slimmer size. First off, by Phone functions I mean - Calling, Text Messages (SMS) and items of that nature. The iPod Touch does have e-Mail, full internet, wi-fi, Google Maps, Weather, Stocks and all the same features of the iPhone. The iPod Touch comes in either 8GB ($299) or 16GB ($399). Also, the actual size is a mear 8mm "thick," which dwarfs the iPhones size.
Enough with the description, how well does everything work? I will start off with the base iPod functions. The iPod Touch can handle music in the same way as all iPods, except with a more fully featured coverflow and touch screen controls. It is easy to control the music, even if you are inside another application. Just double click on the button and music control popup appears. TV Shows, Movies and video podcasts all are supported and are easy to reach and use. I love listening and watching Podcasts, and the large 3.5" screen makes me enjoy them oh so much more.
Every single application (Maps, Mail, Address Book etc) all function the same on the iPod Touch as they do on the iPhone. So you can use the internet and check your mail at anytime with Wi-Fi. This truely is amazing and I am still blown away how great the mobile version of the iPod Touch browser is. I am stunned how fast it is, and how easy it is to surf the internet even though you are only using a 3.5" screen. You honestly have to use it to believe it.
Overall, the iPod Touch performs extremely well. It is an iPhone for the people who don't want a phone, don't want AT&T or any other reason. The Wi-Fi and Safari make it the best mobile browsing device, and the music functions are just as great as every other iPod. However, the videos are what make it step up on the iPod Classic. Larger screen, widescreen and touch controls make this the best iPod video player. If you have the money and you want a phoneless-iPhone, then the iPod Touch was made for you.
