Go-Go's debut CD - Beauty and the Beat

Beauty and the Beat is the first album from this all-girl band. It's a fun disc with a bit of a raw and unpolished sound for such a pop-oriented album.

There isn't a bad track on this album. The disc features two of the bands most well known hit singles: We Got the Beat and Our Lips are Sealed. While We Got the Beat is a fun song, it didn't age as well as the other songs here. Our Lips are Sealed, however, is just as great to listen to now as it was in the eighties. It is a classic pop song. 

Beyond the hit singles, there are lots of other great songs here. This Town is one of my favorite songs from the band and they do a great version of it live. It's an incredibly moving and moody song with a driving bass line. Lust to Love and Automatic are both extremely strong songs. Through this album the band does a great job of creating a mood around a song, and these two songs are great examples of this. Whether it by a happy-go-lucky feel or a life sucks feel, they convey it through their musicianship.

This is an excellent disc. I would recommend this disc along with their greatest hits CD to any casual fan.
