A Bad Plan
Share and Enjoy:
Xpax is a prepaid cellphone service provided by Celcom Malaysia Berhad. The starter pack costs about $2.50 and comes with a sim card and a user manual. Now, the main reason I bought this service is because of the heavy advertisement of its mobile internet speed which is supposedly the fastest. When I read the manual, I couldn't even find one sentence that told me how to activate and get my GPRS settings. I found out later that the information is in the company's website. Talk about annoyance. Next is about the GPRS itself. 'Who says they have the fastest network' is one of the questions asked by Celcom about mobile internet speed. Well I say everyone except Celcom has a fast network. The network is atrociously slow. A page less than 1kb takes more than a minute to load. Most of the time an internet connection is non-existant in my place of stay. Plus, the rates state that they charge around $0.025 per 10kb charged (values have been converted to US$ so it might seem very cheap to US residents but is expensive for Malaysian residents). However I was charged nearly triple the amount. Talk about misinformation or bad billing too. The call and text plans are extremely confusing with three plans and peak and off peak hours which are different for text and calls. Generally, calls are 50% more expensive than other services and texts are almost 100% more expensive (a good example is international texts cost $0.125 on this network whereas it costs $0.05 on other networks). This is a service thats not worth it at all. Thumbs down to Celcom for misleading the public that they are the best.

Thanks for the warning. I have never heard about this. Its probably not in the US. I will be sure if it is ever offered that I will steer clear of it.
