Good credit union in Maryland
Tower Federal is a good credit union to join if you live in the Baltimore metro area. Most members become eligible because they, or a family or household member, work for or with the NSA.
I especially like Tower now because they built a branch about a mile away from my house. Since the credit union is fairly large and is doing well, they may be adding more in the next few years. Right now there are a total of seven, so it is no Bank of America, but it provides good coverage in the area.
One of the best products Tower offers is their credit card. The rate is only 10.9 percent and they don't kill you in late or over-limit fees. The savings accounts and loans are just average, when compared to other credit unions. They have the typical products: certificates, auto loans, home equity, etc.
The customer service is pretty good, although I have had a couple of problems, such as when they accidentally shut off my new ATM card instead of my old one. Issues are usually resolved quickly, but sometimes it takes a while to get connected with the right person to resolve them.
