We got this product for my 4 year old for Christmas, and she loves it. We have the Disney version that was available around Christmas, but friends of ours have the original version and they work just the same. The only difference is the three original keys the system came with{oringinal version had the fisher price dog, elmo, and dragontales while the Disney one came with Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and Jo Jo from Jo Jo's Circus} and that the Disney system is red and the regular one is white.
How the system works is there are keys with different characters on them, and there is a "spot" for the child to put the character into. {There are also nonactive spots that are just for storage}. Once a character is placed into the "spot" the child is sent to the website of that character. They are not able to click onto any of the ads or additional links on that page, so they are essentially stuck on that site. When they get tired of playing those games they can choose a different character to put in the spot and it will take them to that website.
One of the things my husband and I love about this system {but my daughter does not like} is that we can set a time limit. When the designated time is up a screen pops up with a clock telling her the time is up. She can put keys in the spot as much as she wants and nothing will happen. This is a great feature for busy moms who can easily lose track of time. Another thing we like is the option to turn off printing. If your child is like ours they could easily print out hundreds of coloring pages, so we like the fact that there is that option.
There are additional characters for sale {Barney, Bob The Builder, Thomas the Train, Higglytown Hereos, Little Einsteins, etc.} for about $7-$10 each pack {2 come in a pack}, and there are 9 storage spots on the system{not including the spot that activiates game play}.
All of the websites the child is taken to are free and you could get to them on your own by typing in the web address, but this system is a great parental control since it lets you limit their time on the computer, and keeps them on "safe" sites. I have and will continue to recomment this product to friends who allow their children to play on the computer.
