Worthy Guitar

Share and Enjoy:
When I decided to get a small acoustic with a mahogany body, I began to check out the available models. Having played a D-28 Martin for many years, I was partial to the brand but the 00-000-18 models were more than I wanted to spend. I looked at Taylor instruments but did not care for the tonal mix. I then tried the 000-16 Martin GT and found that it had every thing I required. A balanced tone, 14 frets to the body, it could be flat picked or played finger style and recorded very well. Martin saves money by having a bolt on neck and the fingerboard and bridge are made from composite material. I had no idea about this until I looked at specs for this review, so any question that it hurts the sound will most likely be the result of traditional prejudice. The guitar is built from solid tone woods, mahogany sides and back and a spruce top with scolloped internal bracing. That's what brings the sound which, IMO, is superb. I would add that ebony has been the tradition for bridge and finger boards simply because it is a very dense wood. Using a synthetic here is no different that the synthetic ivory used in nuts and saddles. Like any hard wood ebony is a slow growth item and needs to be conserved. My D-28 Martin has all the "Stuff" Brazilian Rosewood, ebony fingerboard and bridge, ivory nut and saddle and it doesn't put this 000-16 under the table. It's a different sound to be sure, but not better. No, in my solid opinion this new Martin does the job at a fair price and after 40 some years of playing many guitars, I am happy to say this is my go to acoustic right now,

  2. I want a Martin so bad, I don't think there is a better brand of acoustic. I'm interested in seeing this one you reviewed, the price is good.
