Yes, I know publishers are in the business of putting out books that they believe will bring in major bucks, but one does possess the hope that they will, at least, hold on to some semblance of having higher standards of quality.  Silly me!  Apparently, Fireside Publishing has no such ideals, since it has released the so-called memoirs of headline-sucking pseudo-celebrity Paris Hilton.  Entitled Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Cheek Peek Behind the Pose, it is probably everything her most worshipful fans will love.  Hilton describes her family life, her early insecurities, some of her glamorous style tips, and tons of other topics that anyone with less than a third-grade intellect would find "intriguing."  I admit that I read, purely out of curiosity, to see if maybe the persona Paris Hilton projects publicly is a mere facade and that, beneath it all, is a misunderstood young woman with depth, sincerity and intelligence.  Again, silly me! People who worship her blindly- and there are a lot of them- will be delighted with this book and those who perceive her as being vacuous, self-absorbed and a huge waste of public attention, will find reading through this an excruciating exercise. Frankly, I am certain that, even in its present form, it was probably Merle Ginsberg, the "co-author", who did most of the writing, since Ms. Hilton probably had little time to put two words together, due to her busy partying schedule. I don't know whether I feel sad, mad or amused that I read any of Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Cheek Peek Behind the Pose, but nobody should spend close to $10 of their hard-earned money on this, even if you do like Paris Hilton.
