Smith & Hawken club chairs

In September we went into Target to pick something up and as we passed the patio furniture area we noticed that it had been marked down to 50% off. We looked around and in the middle of the floor was a large box containing the 2 club chairs. The deal was too good to pass up so we purchased them.
The assembly of the chairs was actually easier than we expected and to our delight all the holes that were predrilled actually all matched up. If you have put together any furniture in the last few years you probably know how rare that can be. The assembly consisted of screwing together the seat, the back and the 2 side pieces. It took about an hour to put both of them together. The seat cushion attaches to the frame with straps so it does not slide out from under you while the back cushion is loose.
My only complaint on the set was the back cushion. Unlike the seat, the pillow that was inside was stuffed way to soft. It has the feel of a down pillow but does not provide enough support between your back and the wood frame. The cushion covers are removable and there is a zipper to open and close them. I solved the problem of the too soft cushion on a trip to Ikea. There I found to Euro square pillow stuffers that were just the right size. I brought them home and slid them into the cover and it solved the problem beautifully.
We get compliments on the set all the time when people come to visit and the kids love to sit out there with their friends

Smith & Hawkin makes absolutely lovely things for the home and garden. I've had my eye on this set at Target. Like you, I'm going to pounce when I see them marked down. I appreciate your heads up on the back cushion and your work around. Simple, inexpensive and it works!!!

What a great shopper you are! I try to never pay full price for anything. I'm all about the clearance items. The best time to buy something really expensive it after the season is over. This is such a great buy for you! I was thinking the same thing about putting cushions inside that you would like better. The pre-drilled holes matching exactly doesn't happen often. Seems like there are always one or two that are just a bit off ...making it a struggle and not fun. Wish you had a picture!

But the kids look like a great accent to the furniture! LOL.. Sounds like an ok buy.. not to kean on haveing to redo something farely new to be worthy of comfort.. but they are a nice looking set!
